Sister Cities

"Together we must learn how to compose differences, not with arms, but with intellect and decent purpose."
- Dwight D. Eisenhower, 34th President of the U.S.

Sister Cities International was founded in 1956 by President Dwight D. Eisenhower who believed that twinning cities and connecting people at the community level would forge strong international relations and build trust.  Today, 2,100 U.S. cities and 121 countries are part of the Sister Cities network of citizen diplomats.

Sister Cities of Houston is an umbrella organization made up of the city’s seventeen sister city associations. Each association is a community-based, volunteer organization that fosters and implements commercial, cultural, educational and humanitarian exchange between the two cities.
